The Immediacy of Now…

September 5th, 2010

With the sudden onslaught of cold days one can only grasp his gin & tonic and wonder… has the summer finally gone for the season? I say answer with questions… Who really gives a fuck? Now onto more pressing matters. I’ve got a few collages leftover from the festival, and I’m thinking about reopening my etsy shop so that people interested can order some. I will base my continuation of this process based on it’s popularity. Well… at the moment, it’s looking old as fuck. I presume it shall get quite the refresh in the next few weeks though… anyway, it’s going to be located here:

…I’ll post links to it from my facebook and also from all of my blog sites. Hmmm… all this typing is boring, let’s look at some pictures, shall we?

Good Life - A - V1 Good Life - B - V1

Wow… would you look at that… the first draft of a job for the 5&10 bar. Yep, that’s all you get for right now… I’m not happy until I am, and trust me… I’m not. Not yet at least, not with this… Anticipate it’s finish. We’ll see if I like it more, or less… you be the judge. Til next time…

A Dead Man’s Work is Never Done

September 3rd, 2010

As it would appear (in the nature of having a slight work addiction) I have somehow lined up quite a collection of freelance jobs. With the PAF finally being over I find it quite reasonable to go back to my busy schedule, but working on art instead of designing other peoples ideas was quite a welcome vacation. Current projects include 3 upcoming website designs, a flyer & 2 posters. More info to come… it’s going to be a long holiday weekend.

People’s Arts Festival

Now as for that, well… on Saturday (just in case anyone missed it) I got extremely drunk as according to plan. Other than alcohol I also spent a bit of money on art as I tend to at these sorts of things… and my daily flickr views has grown quite a bit since the festivals close. Speaking of that… here are some pictures…

Oh well… time to start preparing for work. More information coming soon… and a new revised portfolio site is on the way.

Making Magic

People’s Arts Festival

Wow, so it’s been exactly 1 month since my last post… and my PAF collages (for this weekends art fair) have come a long way. Let’s take a quick walk through the process and how it’s been working out in the last month.

Well, we all know about the first step of making the collage, right? No? …shhhh. Shut the fuck up then, no one asked you. Here’s where we start with the stickers. It all begins with an index card containing a sketch of a schoolgirl holding a pair of sais.

Sai

Noted. The following process (partially documented here) involves converting the index card into a 1:1 copy for a better resolution on the sticker. In this case, the size was about 15×26 give or take. Once it’s been scaled to size, and drawn out better it is then transferred to the sticker material. In this case we’re using a simple method of a scanner and printer. The separate sheets from the printer then have to be trimmed down so to fit together as one.

Once this process is completed, the sticker is then trimmed down in order to maximize the amount of visible background. After all, the process of making the background collage is just as interesting, and we don’t want it to be lost.  The sticker is then applied. Easier said than done with a sticker of this size. It will sometimes still have imperfections as problems arise during this step. However, these small issues will ultimately give the piece it’s individuality.

People’s Arts Festival

I’ve been taking apart furniture to transform it into artwork. Hopefully people will buy it… hopefully my new process will work, because I’m out of some vital colors to make my more “traditional” paintings. I’ve constructed a few ideas based on: a) things I’ve seen at other art shows b) things I’ve seen on the internet c) things I’ve seen around my living room d) things I’ve seen inside my mind… that’s pretty much it. This is day 3 or 4 of the process… here’s a couple of pictures.

The website is getting a complete makeover. I’ll let you know a few months after I’m finished…

Headaches

I’ve been making new menu’s and daily specials cards for all of the Boydell restaurants. This is quite a process… the websites have had recent overhauls as well. The Coaches Corner stuff looks a little like this…

Not to be Social, Just to be Normal.

May 17th, 2010

As I always say… it’s been a while since I updated my blog. Yeah, and that’s not fucking retard. Anyway… here’s some new shit… Coats & Corpses is live, check it out if you haven’t already it’s “interesting” to say the least. I know I’m always talking shit about music so you might as well listen to some of mine and make fun of me. It’s got free downloads as well, and just in case you didn’t know… I’m not in every band, but I do know people who were.

Hey Weird

Yeah, so this is totally not news. This band hasn’t existed for at least 2 or 3 years, but I just ran across it today at work. Decided to put it up on Coats & Corpses. Just click the link on the right.

Sketchbook

So I was in a slump for a minute, and I thought I had forgotten how to draw. (Which sucks, because I actually have to do it very often.) Then today I decided to do up a couple of sketches available on flickr…

Fuck Your Guns We've Got Guns Too Not to be Social, Just to be Normal

…and also here apparently. I will now be filtering all images through flickr because this WordPress site has a back end that is fucked and dying. Meaning that I can no longer upload pictures to it (Insert sad frown face.)

Remedy667

That’s right it’s back, and in full force. Check that shit, yo!

Niki’s Pizza

Rolling out the 30th Anniversary for a Detroit favorite they’ve got me doing some lightboxes and billboards. Presumably a new menu design as well, but stay tuned for all of that shit. However, it’s neighbor…

…had an awesome Cinco de Mayo this year. Did the posters… here’s a little bit of the process…

Anyway, there’s always more, but that’s all I feel like sharing right now. Check out those few websites, and my flickr page. Also, look for more lies from a dead acrobat in the near future.
