Are you Fucking Seriousing Me…?!?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

My keyboard is fucking broken, it’s awesome… every few minutes it stops working and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. Piss me the fuck off, anyway… what’s a Nick P work on lately, you ask?

Reworking Bar Logos

Another week, another ad. This ones going in a magazine called Metra, it’s for 3rd Floor Ladies Night at Eros Lounge. The Hottest New Gay Bar in Detroit…?!? Hell if I know, I’m just make words look pretty… either way, are we competing with Metrotimes here or what? Maybe not as sleazy though…

Coupons…
which I will mention, but not show. Since there was some sort of mess up with them, and they aren’t expired yet anyway. Now, since that isn’t really fair of me to talk about these wonderful coupons, and how cool or lame they look. Allow me to hook you up with a bad coupon. I think this one was made for December…

…that’s obvious though. Speaking of things that expired in December, I need to make a new header for the Russell Bazaar website. This winter wonderland might be a little hard to top with spring colors, like, I dunno…pastel?

Menus…

and Posters…
…and speaking of pastels, again… BTW, this one isn’t finished yet.

…and more recently, I’ve been picking up Blueberries at the store…
TO MAKE SOME DELICIOUS MUFFINS!!!

…or eat them at least.

A Cynical Attempt at Being Feeble

So, we’ve been without the internet for the last few days at work… but that didn’t really stop anything from getting done. In fact, it’s been quite the week here at the Russell Industrial Center…

ARRIBA
Started off with a series of comps for the new Arriba! club opening up downtown. They really wanted this sunshine/beach umbrella feel to it, so that’s what they got… Here’s a few comps picked up along the way. Everyone wanted this font, which to me doesn’t say nightclub… but I’m just a designer, what do I know.

From right to left I present; the mustache, a seventies airline, Morton Salt, a travel agency, another travel agency, and a company that makes ranchero style cans of beans… Anyway, the final ended up looking like this…

…but I still liked the mustache.

Detroit – A New Beginning
Then sometime after or during all of that, Klever came and dropped off our posters for the show currently going on at the Russell Gallery. People should go and buy them… tell them you like the design, but the image looks a little lossy from the expansion from 4X6 to 24X36. Now, I know in advance that we are making posters of every handbill. Either way, it still came out ok. I got a free one. It’s sitting at home in a pile of other stuff that I designed. Here’s a preview…

Check out my spraygraphic page for the rest of the story… http://www.spraygraphic.com/ViewProject/9090/normal.html and don’t forget to click the link that says you liked it. Enough about me… time for work, only 7 more hours til vacation…

Get Ready to March!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

March (being the busy month to do just that) is promising to be quite the month for gallery shows… for people living in Arizona. First off, there’s a mini show (always fun)… a sticker show (always, …sticky?), and finally a poster show rounding out the end of the month. Now, me, being an illustrator claiming to be an artist (or is it the other way around) have decided to act in the supporting cast of all 3. I’ve been at it for a few weeks now, but haven’t divulged too much information into the blog…

I’m devoting this first post to the poster show, since that’s what I’m working on right this minute. I’ll talk about the other shows in retrospect, later… The rules are simple, 2 posters… 11X17 or larger… from 2 different local bands…

So…

I did some drawing the other day, for the poster show…

I really want to use that nurse on the left, but it may prove to be impossible because I can’t think of any local bands that I would like to use it with right now. Lucky for you, it may become a Click’N’Print… I did, however, have a preconcieved idea for the Hadituptohere’s poster. It’s based on some illustrator art I had seen the other day that made drastic overuse of the Halftone, and this tutorial I stumbled upon a few months ago…

Then, I figured “Hey, Nick had asked me to do a DROP flyer for him a couple years ago, why not make a poster from that unfinished sketch?” Remember me…

Which brings us to where we are now… It’s cool though, even though these are looking incomplete as hell (In ore ways than one) I still have until the end of the month.

Newer Posters…

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Just a couple of newer posters I’d been working on for the new year, I kinda dropped the ball back in 2008 with a steady drop in Click’N’Prints, and a shortage of gigposter designs. Fear not, I have a feeling this going to be a good year for things of this sort…

All of these are type-heavy, but I’m not saying that was a good thing, I just got on a kick of doing a bunch of posters at once. The first 2 are vectors made in illustrator 100%. They can be whatever size you want, any ting you want…

This last one was made in Photoshop, from an old piece of retro clip art I found and did some manipulation to. Bad manipulation by the way… check out the hand holding the knife in the full view and you’ll see what I mean. The “R” in Killers was originally supposed to have a knife shape on the descender, but hey, you can’t have everything. At least I saved myself from redundancy by a little bit. Anyway, it’s all the usual 2 color BS…

This is going to be a pretty sweet show.I’m excited to see the Underground Railroad to Candyland, and for those keeping count. Some other good shows coming up are: the Toadies at the Majestic, and Star Fucking Hipsters at the Trumbleplex.
